Ok...well I am new at this xanga stuff but I think that I have some good material for you all (probalby meaning Billy and Sarah). Tonight was my first night shift working 6pm-6am....and not only that but I am officially on my own. So after two weeks of intensive training with two men that are very well versed in mill working you would think I knew all the ins and outs. I get my first call:
"Core cutting this is Brenda"
They go on to tell me what they want cut and I tell them not a problem I will have it over right away. As I go up to the machine I notice that something looks a little wierd. Without going into too much detail, it didnt work. So I go through the steps, turn my radio to the maintenance chanel and tell them I need help. Well after 10 times trying I figured it would a hopeless cause....so I had to call back the guy that called me with the order for the cores and ask him what to do. He ended up having to come to my station and fix the machine...though it wasn't my fault-it was not the best way to start off my first day on 'my own'.
The rest of the night went with not so many bumps. The forklift is still a challenge and I needed a little assistance. I had a lot of free time and my good friend Sarah Jo was for some reason up till 5 her time...4 my time so we got to catch up a little bit which was lovely. But I got to do some looking on the internet and chat with a few people also. I got my ipod hooked up in my control room which is way better than the radio so I was jammin too. I had a few visitors...and by visitors I mean middle aged divorced men.
Ok...well here's the best part of my night. After Sarah Jo finially decided it was time for her to go to bed I decided I should probably clean up my area. This mean using the huge air hose and hosing down the table machie floor etc., emptying the sawdust bin, dumping the trash and my favorite-water hosing the floor. Now the past few weeks I only got a little experience with the water hose. My trainers always ended up doing most of it so I didn't have to worry about it. So I begin to hose the floor and its going well. But then there is a kink in the hose. And I dont know if you have ever used a big hose before but these things have lots of power....all of sudden there is no pressure because of the kink...so I guess then my hand decided to loosen the grip a little bit and it wasn't ready when the water decided to come full force again and it flung outa my hands and started whipping around like an angry snake. As it flipped in the air it was certain to soak not only my white t-shirt but also soak the general area around my crotch. So yes...I now look like I didn't quite make it to the bathroom durning a wet t-shirt contest. I have about 45 minutes now before the end of my shift...and that means I will have to walk by probably 30-40 people and they will all be wondering if I am potty trained.
All and All I would have to say it was a great first shift on my own....lots of learning!!! |
